Wedding Reception Ideas: How to Entertain your Guests

Need some wedding reception ideas for entertaining your guests? Check out these fun ideas that are sure to make guests feel welcome.

You have planned every last decoration detail for what will undoubtedly be a beautiful wedding reception, but have you given any thought to entertaining your guests? Here are a few tips to help you throw a fun and energized reception that all your guests will enjoy.

Not everyone wants to dance the night away at a reception so think about providing other entertainment options.

• If feasible, create a “quiet room” for guests who would like to sit and chat without the distraction of loud music.
• If children will be attending the reception, find qualified individuals to supervise a children’s room with several activities like coloring, board games, movies or more.
• Set up a lounge with billiards and casino games or have a poker room set a side. The gambling fans on your guest list will more than appreciate this option. Keep guests entertained with unique activities they can partake in.
• Have the videographer set up a stationery camera so guests can record their own messages to the bride and groom throughout the evening.
• During cocktail hour, consider offering a dance class. Guests will have fun learning and it will get them in the mood to dance later on. It also might help coax a few of those shy closet-dancers out onto the floor.
• Place a card with the words to your first dance song at each place setting so guests can serenade you during that magical first dance. Add a few details to your reception that are just for fun.
• Try candy instead of cake. Set up a candy buffet that is sure to entice every taste bud. It’s a fun way for guests to enjoy dessert and it adds to the decoration.
• Write place cards with a few words that describe each guest. They will appreciate the thought and you will have a blast describing your friends and family with words like “super mom” or “wildly entertaining.”
