PERSONAL TOUCHES: In Memory Of

Q: My grandmother passed away last year and I want to do something special in her memory at our ceremony. However, I don't want to call attention away from the joyful celebration taking place. Do you have any suggestions?

A: There are many ways to honor a loved one who has passed away. Perhaps your bouquet could consist of your grandmother's favorite flowers, or you could order an arrangement of those flowers to be set in a prominent place during your celebration. You could also ask that the bells of the church be rung in her honor for a few moments before the ceremony starts. Another touching symbol of remembrance is to have a candle lit in her memory. Designate a place for the candle and surround it with greens and flowers. Instruct your ushers to light the candle in addition to the others before the ceremony starts to bring to mind the living memory of your grandmother. However you choose to honor her memory, be sure to make a note toward the end of your program letting guests know of your tribute.
