PERSONAL TOUCHES: Groom's Cake

Q: What's a groom's cake?

A: The groom's cake is a Victorian wedding tradition. It was said that if a single woman took a slice of the cake home with her and placed it under her pillow, she would dream of her future husband. Today, the cake is more likely enjoyed on the wedding day or is even served at the rehearsal dinner the night before. As its name suggests, the groom has the "say" in the creation of the cake. It's usually his favorite flavor and is decorated with his personality and lifestyle in mind - with an outdoor theme if he's a sportsman, in the shape of a football if he's a fan, or representing his college mascot and colors. Our selection of fun cake tops are also appropriate for adding flair to the groom's cake. The cake is usually displayed separately from the wedding cake and may be enjoyed later, perhaps during the dance. It's a wonderful way to add a fun, personal touch to your wedding with a salute to the man of the hour - the groom!
