Q: My decorating budget is getting out of hand. Do you have any money-saving ideas that will still allow us to create a lovely reception?
A: Details are wonderful in terms of wedding décor, but they can also add up to a healthy portion of your budget. To remedy this, think about having your decorations do double-duty as wedding favors. Purchase pretty little bud vases, place a colorful flower (such as a rose or gerbera daisy) in each and set one by each plate. Guests can take the vases home as a memento. The same concept goes for votive holders and candles - light a candle at each place setting and guests can take it home to remember your special day. Another twist on this idea is to mass the bud vases or votive candles in the center of the table for more impact, and invite guests to take one of the items home with them after the reception is over.
